“Supplementary language classes for returnee children”

On 20th of March, 2019 the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH jointly with Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology (MEST) held a workshop to present the changes and additions to the textbooks “Supplementary language classes for returnee children” (the “Teacher’s book” and the “Pupils Book”).

The workshop consisted of MEST officials, representatives of MEDs as well as teachers involved in the process of review, training and use of these textbooks. The main objective of the workshop was to obtain final feedback on the textbooks.

The textbooks are expected to be finalized by the End of March, 2019.

Additional information on the process of textbooks and the training:

The textbooks (consisting of “Pupil’s Book” and “Teacher’s Book”), have been developed initially by Council of Europe to support Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in organizing “Supplementary language classes for returnee children” and they have been used and tested for three years by MEST and Municipal Education Departments (MEDs) at the school level where there were repatriated students.

During the three year period there have been requests from teachers and MED officials to re-evaluate them. As a result on November 2017, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH with Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology (MEST) held a workshop to identify the main changes and additions that need to be made. With the permission  Council of Europe, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has supported the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology (MEST) in the process of review and editing. In addition, at the beginning of 2018, the 2 day training program for the use of the textbooks was accredited. Also, a considerable number of municipal officials were trained as TOT on the training programme.
