On 3rd of September, the “Excellency Initiative – Inclusive Municipality” initial meeting was held with municipal representatives (Mayor’s cabinet, Administration, MED, MORC, CSW) to congratulate and recognize 4 selected municipalities: Gjakove / Dakovica; Obiliq / Obilic; Podujeve / Podujevo; and Shtime / Stimlje.
This activity is part of GIZ project “Capacity Development in Basic Education in Kosovo/CDBE” – component on educational inclusion of returnees and ethnic minorities, as part of the German Cooperation support to the Kosovo education sector reform.
In April, 2018, GIZ CDBE in partnership with Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology (MEST) has launched an open call for application for the activity of “Excellency Initiative – Inclusive Municipality” in 13 municipalities of which 4 municipalities were selected based on an evaluation grid results (merit basis).
The application for the Excellency Initiative contained a questionnaire evaluating the municipalities’ current situation, commitment, structure, and vision for educational and social reintegration and inclusion of returnees and vulnerable groups. The GIZ CDBE team carried out visits to the interested project municipalities to promote the Excellency Initiative and to encourage the municipalities to apply.
The meeting objective was to recognize wining municipal authorities, present an engaged consultant for conducting needs assessments and implementation plans, further plan joint activities, and present the “Excellency Initiative – Inclusive Municipality” concept to municipalities.
The GIZ technical support to 4 selected municipalities is envisioned to start in September 2018 until 2020.
